Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices
Accredited through AIM Qualifications
Distance learning, Zoom and classroom
The Level Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices gives you the knowledge to be an internal quality assurer (IQA). There are two units: one theory and one practical, so you need to either be already working as an IQA or have access to assessors you can quality assure for the purpose of achieving the qualification. If you prefer, you can complete the knowledge unit only as a standalone course. You can then return to the practical unit to upgrade your course when you’re ready. It is a nationally recognised award, accredited through AIM Qualifications.
Who is it for?
Ideally you’ll already hold the Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA), A1 award or equivalent. You’ll have some experience in assessing in your area of specialism and now want to progress to take on some IQA responsibilities – or, indeed, a full IQA role! You must be over the age of 19 when you start this course.
Do I need to be in an IQA role?
You don’t have to be in an IQA role as such. What you do need is access to some IQA responsibilities, which you need to arrange yourself. That can be at your organisation or elsewhere. You’ll be observed twice, working with and giving feedback to assessors, as well as provide product evidence such as standardisation meeting minutes and IQA plans. If you’re only completing the knowledge unit, you do not need to be in an IQA role, nor do you need to be observed.
I want to do distance learning... how will the observations work for me?
You can send in a video and your tutor will send you feedback. If you work in a prison or similar organisation where observations cannot take place, please let us know as soon as possible.
How much time will it take?
Classroom option: There are 5 full-day sessions, which will be arranged with you. Coursework will be set for you to do in your own time. You'll be set completion dates in line with your session dates. If you don’t think you’ll complete in time, let us know as soon as possible. Assessments submitted after your completion date – unless otherwise agreed in advance – are charged at £25 per assessment.
Distance learning:
You can move through as quickly as you choose! We ask that distance learners complete coursework within 1 year of purchase. If you don’t think you’ll complete in time, let us know as soon as possible. Assessments submitted after your completion date – unless otherwise agreed in advance – are charged at £25 per assessment.
Are there any exams?
No. Your work isn’t graded either: you either pass or you are referred, which means you have an opportunity to resubmit your work. We will of course give you as much support as you need to pass! Your work will be assessed by your tutor.
Who is my tutor?
It’s Sarah Harris. Sarah worked in senior management at a charity for nine years, qualified with the Diploma To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) in 2011 and has been writing, assessing and delivering training for a variety of delegates for over ten years.
