This fast-paced programme has been designed for new pastoral workers, Heads of House and Heads of Year giving essential knowledge including:
Introduction to Pastoral Support
o Identify the roles and responsibilities of pastoral workers, Heads of House and Heads of Year.
Theoretical frameworks
o Analyse theories and their relevance to supporting students effectively.
Equality and Diversity
o Understand the concepts of equality and diversity within the school context and develop strategies for inclusion.
LGBTQI+ Inclusion
o Define essential LGBTQI+ terminology and issues and challenges affecting students.
Mental Health
o Recognise common mental health issues among adolescents, their signs and symptoms.
o Identify available resources and support systems for students.
Additional needs
o Participants will be able to recognise various types of additional needs (e.g., learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health issues).
Safeguarding
o Understand the importance of safeguarding in educational settings, legal responsibilities and school policies related to safeguarding.
Conflict Management
o Identify types of conflicts that may arise in a school setting.
o Learn techniques for effective conflict resolution, including mediation.
Bullying
o Understand the impact of bullying, different forms of bullying and recognise the short- and long-term effects of bullying on students' mental health and well-being.
o Develop intervention strategies: explore practical intervention strategies to address and prevent bullying in schools.
Behaviour
o Understand basics of behaviour management, theory behind the topic of behaviour and why students don’t always behave as we would like.
