Getting approval from your chosen awarding organisation
When setting up as a training centre, you will need:
Level 3 Award in Education and Training and Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement.
In addition to our comprehensive start-up training, you'll have the opportunity to gain these essential teaching and assessing qualifications at a later date, using a discount code.
So, by the time you move on, you'll not only have the tools to launch your training business but you (or a chosen member of your staff) will be certified to teach and assess your students!
As well as teaching and assessing qualifications, to set up a centre, you'll also need....
An awarding body to accredit your courses
The Centre Start-Up programme will give you all of the tips and tricks you need to find an appropriate awarding body and apply to become a centre with them.
Funds
You will need to be in a position to pay for all elements of your centre set-up, including your awarding body set-up fees, as they are payable at the point of application. The EMG does not provide funding application services, nor guidance in this area. The EMG always recommends that you seek financial advice from a qualified financial expert, such as an accountant, if you need advice on money.

Resources
You'll need resources prepared for all courses you want to offer at the point of awarding body application. We'll explain this process to you, giving you options so that you can choose the best way for you to obtain your resources. If you want to, you can also book on to our Course Design workshop, which will show you how to design and create courses yourself.
Time
Although this 3 day programme will take some of the legwork out of your centre set-up, you will need to set time aside to complete your awarding body's application process and the subsequent compliance activities with them. You’ll also need to ensure that you (or someone!) has time to run the new training arm of your business!
How much time will it take to set up my training centre?
On average, centre set-up can take 6 months or longer, but this very much depends on what exactly you're looking to deliver and how.
You will create a timeline and business plan while you're attending the programme, which will be bespoke (and realistic!) for you and your business.
What we'll cover
Day 1:
Where to start
We'll work out where you are in the process, what you want to achieve and what you want to get out of the programme.
Fact finding and research to find your perfect awarding body
Our trainers are highly experienced in training centre set-up, having worked with multiple awarding organisations such as Open College Network, City and Guilds, Highfield, ABT, CPD, NCFE, Open Awards, VTCT, UAL and others. We'll work with you in the session to show you how to choose the right one for you.
The qualifications you need
You'll learn exactly what you (or your staff) need to be able to offer the courses you want to.
Resources
This is a major part of your training centre! We'll show you what you'll need, based on your individual circumstances and how you can get them.
You'll also be able to book on to an additional workshop to learn how to design and create your own resources if you choose. And we'll give you a discount code for it!
Day 2:
Policies and procedures
We'll give you templates to take away as well as show you how you can adapt your policies and procedures to meet the needs of your learners, your business and your awarding body.
Marketing and preparation for centre opening
You will want to promote your new centre and get potential learners excited about it! The programme will show you some tips and tricks with social media and your website. Link with us on social media and we’ll also like and share all of your posts!
Business planning
We'll help you to create a refined business plan to future-proof your business.
Day 3:
Create a timeline
FInd out how long it is realistically going to take you to open your training centre based on your individual circumstances.
Advice and guidance from training experts
We'll answer any questions you have about your new training centre.
Time for networking
You'll be working with other training centre owners on the programme and you're unlikely to be delivering the same courses, so there will be time to make vital connections for your future in training!
£999
Please note payment is required at the point of booking. You are not booked on to the programme until payment has been made.
As well as all of this vital knowledge, you'll also get:
A guide written by a training expert
There's plenty of space to make your own notes and materials you can return to time and time again.
Lunch every day
Physiological needs are important! We're providing lunch (let us know if you have any dietary requirements), tea and coffee (maybe even a biscuit) and we will be taking breaks!
A business plan
You'll work through our bespoke training centre business plan during the sessions. It includes, among other elements, a SWOT analysis, marketing plan and checking out the competition.
Policies and procedures templates
It's good practice to have these in place at the point of approval whether your awarding organisation requests them or not. We'll give you some templates, show you how to make them work for you and you can keep them.
Discount codes
If you attend this programme you'll get EMG discount codes for future bookings on our:
Teaching and assessing courses
Course design workshop
Safeguarding course
Equality and diversity course
Behaviour management course
EMG Endorsed Centre recognition (we're also an awarding body in our own right!)
I'm not in a position to pay for the programme. What else can I do to set up my training centre?
Read our blog so you want to set up a training centre. The EMG cannot provide free advice but the blog includes a huge amount of information on how you can go through the centre set-up process by yourself.
